I'm excited to be the first blogger on

We're excited about the upcoming season at Lamar. The return of football is the big news, but there are plenty of other things going on in Lamar athletics. The men's cross country team, the women's basketball team and the baseball team will all look to defend their Southland Conference championships.

We'll have a returning All-American in men's track, as Joonas Harjamaki recently earned that status in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Men's basketball should be entertaining as the Cards look to return to the Southland Conference Tournament. Women's soccer and volleyball will challenge for spots in the conference tournament. The men's and women's golf teams are always competitive and women's tennis boasts of the SLC Player of the Year in Mariaryeni Gutierrez.

There will be plenty of ways to follow the Cardinals this season. We've upgraded the Web site and we'll also be posting updates on Twitter (LamarCards), Facebook (Lamar Athletics) and MySpace (Lamar Athletics).

Thanks for reading. And Go Cards!
