Lamar has 16 Athletes named to 2006 Commissioners Fall Academic Honor Roll

FRISCO, Texas - The Southland Conference announced that 16 Lamar University student-athletes have been named to the CaptialOne Bank/SLC Commissioner's 2006 Fall Academic Honor Roll. Among the honorees are all academic team members, all-conference selections, and/or both in their respective sports this season. In addition, several garnered individual superlatives in their sport.

Presented by CaptialOne Bank, the honor roll recognizes student-athletes who competed in league championship sports during the fall semester and maintained at least a 3.0 semester grade point average while enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours. Each Southland institution is responsible in selecting the student-athletes for the fall roll. Student-athletes in sports played during the spring semester have the opportunity to be named the Academic Honor Roll following the spring semester.

Cross country led the way for LU with nine athletes earning a 3.0 or higher, led by women's cross country athlete of the year Clerc Koenck, and men's cross country newcomer of the year Samuel Kosgei. Aaron Brannen, Renee Graham, Mary Johnson, Amanda King, Karesse Lethermon, Ben McBride and Ewan Simpson also joined the list of honorees.

Half of the Lady Cardinal volleyball team was also named to the honor roll. First team all-conference selection Buchi Okoh, while Meagan Adams, Lauren Holdorff, Adrianne Meengs, Courtney Mitchell, Lauren Rush and Ashley Todd rounded out the seven players honored.

During the fall semester, seven student-athletes received perfect 4.00 grade point averages while 39 more received a 3.50 gpa or better.

The tennis program produced the best team grade point averages with the women's team achieving a 3.29 team gpa and the men's team posting a 3.11 team gpa.
