LU Athletics to Hold 3rd Annual Canned Food Scavenger Hunt

April 15, 2009

BEAUMONT - The Lamar University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be holding their third-annual canned food scavenger hunt on Thursday, April 23 at 6 p.m. to collect canned goods that will be donated to the Southeast Texas Food Bank.

SAAC, which includes members from all of Lamar's athletic teams, has coordinated the scavenger hunt to include all of LU's athletes. Athletes will meet at Rogers Park at the corner of Dowlen and Gladys at 6 p.m. and be split into small groups. Each group will receive a map of the surrounding area and a list of canned goods to collect.

The first two scavenger hunts were a big success, as Lamar athletes collected over one ton of canned goods for the SETX Food Bank. Last year they collected 1,300 pounds and picked up 1,400 pounds during the first scavenger hunt.

The SAAC offers input on the rules, regulations and policies that affect student-athletes lives. The SAAC is dedicated to promoting a positive student-athlete image within the athletic programs and creating the executive leaders of tomorrow.

The mission of the NCAA and Lamar University's SAAC is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare and fostering a positive student-athlete image.
