BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University student-athletes devoted their time and effort to raise money to buy supplies for the victims of last month’s deadly tornado outbreak in Arkansas.

The supplies will be delivered by members of the Lamar men’s and women’s track teams when they travel to the Southland Conference championships hosted by Central Arkansas this weekend in Conway, Ark. Conway is just a few miles away from Vilonia, Ark., one of the hardest hit towns by the tornadoes that killed 16 people.

“We wanted to do something to help those people who lost their homes and belongings because of the tornadoes,” Lamar academic specialist Andrew Caudill said. “We were even more motivated by the fact that some of the victims are part of the Southland Conference Community at Central Arkansas.”

Members from all Lamar teams took part in the drive that was spearheaded by the Lamar softball team.
