July 21, 2006 BEAUMONT - The Cardinal Club garnered 320 new members and raised over $50,000 during its phone-a-thon, held Wednesday at the Montagne Center. The money raised Wednesday brings the Cardinal Club close to two thirds of their projected goal of $150,000 for the year. "The phone-a-thon was a huge success," said Brad McGowan, Assistant Athletic Director for Development. "The volunteers did a tremendous job helping to raise money for Lamar Athletics. The University is grateful for their hard work and dedication and the funds will be going to help support one of the most worthy causes I know...college scholarships." Each year it costs nearly $1,000,000 for the University to fund scholarships for student-athletes. Since state funds cannot help with that cost, donations from alumni and local supporters are vital to the success of Lamar Athletics. To join the Cardinal Club, please contact the Athletic Development Office at 880-2319. |
