Five Lamar Student-Athletes Graduated Saturday; 83 Athletes Earn 3.00 GPA or Better

BEAUMONT â€" Five Lamar University student-athletes graduated during Saturdayâ€TMs fall commencement ceremony at the Montagne Center and 83 student-athletes earned a 3.00 grade point average or better during the fall 2006 semester.

The five graduates included Jason Grant of menâ€TMs basketball, Matt Lambeth and Andrew Gay of baseball, Alexis Timpone of womenâ€TMs basketball and Jennifer Anders of womenâ€TMs golf. Chad Barbre of baseball graduated at the August commencement.

Grant, who graduated cum laude, was a four-year letterwinner on the menâ€TMs basketball team and finished his career as Lamarâ€TMs all-time blocked shots leader with 196. Lambeth, a two-year letterwinner on the baseball team, also graduated cum laude.

Anders was a four-year letterwinner and helped the Lady Cardinals win three Southland Conference titles during her career. A Beaumont native, Anders graduated cum laude.

During the fall semester, six student-athletes received perfect 4.00 grade point averages while 39 more received a 3.50 gpa or better.

The tennis program produced the best team grade point averages with the womenâ€TMs team achieving a 3.29 team gpa and the menâ€TMs team posting a 3.11 team gpa.
