He spent the previous three seasons as the manager/video coordinator for the men's basketball team. A native of Lufkin, Texas, Burges is responsible for film exchange, archiving, highlight videos and post production for Lamar athletics. In addition, he has prepared television packages for regional TV outlets and for individual coaches shows. In addition to his day-to-day duties, Burges is responsible for integration and implementation of full video capabilities into Lamar University's athletic facilities. Including the vast transition into obtaining full live streaming abilities, Burges has developed a methodology for making sure all Lamar Athletics are available to the Cardinal fans. Prior to starting his duties as video coordinator at Lamar, Burges served as an assistant coach at Lamar State College-Port Arthur during the 2006-07 season, under head coach Don Bryson, who was the first All-American in Lamar men's basketball history. Burges came to Lamar after serving two seasons as a student assistant coach at Angelina Junior College under former Lamar basketball player, Guy Davis. While at Angelina, Burges coordinated the Texas High School Basketball Playoff Preview where local high schools were allowed to play warm-up games before hitting the road in the UIL playoffs. He also worked numerous high school and college summer basketball camps. Burges prepped at Central High School in Pollok, Texas, where he lettered in basketball, track and cross country. He averaged 14.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game as a senior. He was a regional finalist in cross country and a district finalist in track four times. Burges received his bachelor's degree in exercise science and fitness management in the summer of 2007 and is currently working on his master's degree. He is a member of the Collegiate Sports Video Association (CSVA), Sports Video Group (SVG), Young Mens Business League (YMBL), The Press Club of Southeast Texas, and The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo (HLSR). Burges is married to the former Tayna Boutwell, a former Lamar University spirit team dancer and current second grade teacher. |
