Pat Murray joined the Lamar media relations staff in November 2009. Murray comes to Lamar from D'Youville College in his native Buffalo, N.Y. Prior to D'Youville, he was an award-winning sports writer and editor for Greater Niagara Newspapers where he covered the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres and Niagara University, among others. He was runner-up for 2005 Sports Writer of the Year among the nationwide chain of Community Newspaper Holdings Inc. for his coverage of the Bills. He has six National Junior College Athletic Association Wrestling Coaches Awards for his coverage of college wrestling. No stranger to the sports information field, Murray started his career as assistant sports information director at his alma mater, Canisius College. He has also served as sports information director at Niagara County Community College and Stony Brook University. He was press chief at the Athletes Village for the 1993 World University Games, the second-largest amateur athletic event in the world, behind only the Olympics. At Lamar, Murray will be the main contact for women's soccer, women's basketball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's golf, men's and women's cross country and men's and women's track. Murray's hobbies include golf, reading, walking, racquetball, cooking and listening to music. He and his wife, Melissa, are the proud parents of Raymond and Victoria. The family resides in Beaumont. |
