KLVI is the 12th oldest continuously licensed broadcast station in Texas, and is owned by Clear Channel Communications. Clear Channel also owns Southeast Texas radio stations KYKR, KKMY, KIOC, and KCOL. KLVI was named the 2003 Marconi Small Market Station of Year by the National Association of Broadcasters. In 2006 KLVI won the Crystal Award for Community Service from the NAB, in part for the station's coverage of hurricane Rita. As the only media outlet left operating in Southeast Texas KLVI simulcast with the other Beaumont Clear Channel stations to broadcast the approach, landfall, and aftermath of the hurricane. For days the Clear Channel stations were the only vehicle for disseminating important information from public officials.
