BEAUMONT – Just one day after it was announced that he was the on the American Football Coaches list, Lamar University senior cornerback
Brendan Langley was selected to the STATS FCS All-American Second Team, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.
The honor Tuesday was his third All-American team along with the AFCA and College Sports Madness squads.
The group – made of three teams - is comprised of 59 seniors, 31 juniors, nine sophomores and two freshmen. Including the Marietta, Ga. native, five Southland Conference performers made it on the list. Sam Houston State added quarterback Jeremiah Briscoe, defensive end P.J. Hall and offensive lineman Bridge Blount, while Central Arkansas had defensive back Tyler Williams.
Langley, who was a 2016 first-team All-Southland pick, was the lynchpin in the league's top pass defense and was in the nation's top 10 in interceptions per game (0.5 pg). His six picks on the year tied for second in the country. Twice in the season he was named as the SLC Player of the Week, both as a defensive back and special team player. Against Southeastern Louisiana, he picked off three passes – tying a school record - and versus Incarnate Word he returned two punts for scores.
The Reese's Senior Bowl invitee went on to register an interception in four consecutive games. Langley was also among the league leaders in pass deflections.
The Senior Bowl – which is premier bowl to showcase skills for both the FBS and FCS levels – is slated to kick off at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28 from Ladd-Peebles Stadium Mobile, Ala. The final rosters for that event will be released in January.
