BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University senior cornerback
Brendan Langley will be attending the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis that runs from Feb. 28 through March 6.
Top executives and members of the coaching staffs and player personnel departments from all 32 NFL teams will be on hand at the combine to evaluate the top college players eligible for this year's NFL Draft. Each invitee undergoes an intense four-day regimen of interviews and testing. Defensive backs will be evaluated from March 3 through March 6.
Up to 335 student-athletes are invited to the combine this year, with approximately 55 to 60 defensive backs receiving an invitation.
Participants are determined annually by a selection committee. The directors of both National and BLESTO scouting services, which combined represent 25 NFL teams, are joined by members of various NFL player personnel departments to form the committee. ALL eligible players are reviewed and voted on by the committee members. The goal of the committee is to invite every player who will be drafted in the ensuing NFL Draft.
Langley, a first-team American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) FCS All-American, was also a first-team All-Southland Conference selection as a defensive back and a punt returner this past season as he became a big-play threat in the secondary. Beginning with a school-record tying performance against Southeastern Louisiana when he picked off three passes, Langley went on to record an interception in four consecutive games. He led the Southland and ranked among the nation's leaders in interceptions and interceptions per game. In addition to the picks Langley also ranked among the league leaders with seven pass deflections.
Langley guided the Southland's top pass defense which surrendered fewer than 190 yards per game. He led the Southland, and ranked among the nation's top 10 in interceptions per game. His six interceptions on the season tied for the second most in the country.
During his two-year career, Langley impacted all three phases of the game for the Cardinals. He began his career as a receiver before transitioning to the defensive side of the ball. In addition to his numbers on defense he also was one of the nation's top punt return threats. He became the first player in school history to return two punts for scores in the same game.
Langley garnered Southland Conference Player of the Week honors twice during the 2016 season, but joins a unique list in doing so. Langley garnered his two weekly honors at different positions receiving defensive honors following the three interceptions against Southeastern Louisiana, and special teams recognition after the two punt returns for scores against Incarnate Word.
Langley will also participate in the Reese's Senior Bowl, set for 1:30 p.m. Jan. 28 in Mobile, Ala.
