NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Both Stu Ferguson and
Freddie Gasbarri led the way for Lamar University Track and Field in the men's mile run Saturday in the final day of the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame at the Loftus Sports Complex.
Both Cardinals set personal bests in the event and both are now close to the top of the Southland Conference leaderboard. Ferguson finished 11
th in the race, 3
rd in his heat, with a 4:06.50 mark that is in second place of the Southland standings. His is behind McNeese's Christoph Graf by three-tenths of a second. Gasbarri finished 22
nd, sixth in his heat, with a 4:09.68 time that is fourth in the league.
TaMar Hicks raced in the 800-meters for the third time this season, and popped a 1:52.43 personal best time and was 16
th overall. His time currently sits in fourth of the league standings.
Keith Fallon also set a personal best in the 3,000-meters Saturday afternoon on an 8:25.85 run.
Jannika John saw her first action of the indoor season in the 3K Saturday and raced to a 9:49.65 time that put her 21
st.
Dominique Taylor worked into the semifinals of the 60-meter hurdles and finished 18
th of 60 competitors in the event with an 8.77 second race.
Chanissey Fowler and
Thai Williams also made it to the semifinals in the 60-meter dash and claimed spots in the top dozen of 65 total racers. Fowler was 10
th overall on a 7.64 finish and Williams crossed in 7.67 seconds.
Brian O'Bonna competed in the men's triple jump and was 11
th overall when he marked in at 47-8.0. He hit that mark in his second attempt and fouled in his final. On the women's side,
Taylar Prier competed in the event and marked in at 38-0.25.
Trashauna Hardy raced in the women's 400 meters and timed in at 58.01 and
Damerian Toliver competed on the men's side for a 50.07 time.
The track and field team will race in its final meet before the Southland Conference championships in a week at the Howie Ryan Invitational hosted by Houston at the Yeoman Fieldhouse. The league meet is slated to start in Birmingham, Ala. on Feb. 22.
