Lamar Athletic Training
Welcome to the home of the Lamar University Athletics Training Department. To facilitate its commitment to the pursuit of athletics excellence for all student-athletes, the Lamar University Department of Athletics supports a full-service Athletic Training Department, staffed with highly qualified individuals. With a full-time staff of three certified and licensed athletic trainers and eight graduate assistant certified and licensed athletic trainers, we are responsible for the injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation and daily medical care for more than 350 Cardinals student-athletes comprising 17 intercollegiate teams. Working in conjunction with our team physicians at the Christus Orthopedic Specialty Center Center - Beaumont Bone & Joint Institute, Sports Medicine and Christus Preventive Medicine of Southeast Texas, the health, and well-being and safety of the Cardinals student-athletes is our priority at all times.
The Lamar University Athletics Training Department operates four athletic training facilities. The main facility is located in the Dauphin Athletics Complex (Room 101). The main facility services all sports, including all all major rehabilitations, and is the location of the Hydroworx therapy pools. The auxiliary facility is located in McDonald Gymnasium (Room 161). This facility services the following sports: M/W Cross Country, M/W Tennis, W/W Track and Field and Volleyball. We have two satellite athletics training facilities used primarily for practice and game preparations and treatments. These facilities service M/W Basketball (Montagne Center) and soccer and softball (Soccer/Softball Complex).
As health care research increases and athletic competition becomes more intense, it is the job of the athletic trainer to ensure the health and safety of the student-athlete, facilitating a peak level of performance. Through utilizing the latest in rehabilitation and treatment options we aim to keep our student-athletes performing at a high level.
Athletic Training is a field recognized and approved by the American Medical Association. Although traditionally associated with athletic injuries, Athletic Training has grown to include a wide variety of aspects, ranging from initial injury evaluations, rehabilitation, and prevention of injuries to the now common administration, education, and continuing education factors.
Lamar University also supports an athletic training internship program. The athletic training program has a rich history and numerous graduates spread across the United States and working in many settings, including high school and collegiate athletic training, clinic and physician extender roles, and even at the professional ranks in the National Football League.
