NACOGDOCHES - It was a solid weekend for the jumpers as the Lamar track and field team competed at the Carl Kight Invitational at Fletcher Garner Track at Homer Bryce Stadium on the campus of Stephen F. Austin.
The group was jumping in windy conditions as Beatrice Douglas took home the B section title in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 6.5 inches. The duo of Carissa Hill and Nicole Alozie competed in the A section and finished fifth and eighth, respectively, with marks of 17 feet, 11.75 inches and 17 feet, two inches.
Michael Lester was also fifth in the men's A section, posting a distance of 23 feet, 1.25 inches, and Jared Benford, who was jumping for just the second time in his career, ended sixth in the B section with a mark of 21 feet, six inches.
In the triple jump, Saschelle Slaughter was fifth for the women at 37 feet, 9.25 inches, and Robert Badillo came in sixth at 46 feet, 4.25 inches.
Slaughter was also strong on the track, finishing second in the 400 with a time of 56.01 seconds, and she ran alongside Sarah Shim, who came in sixth at 57.43.
Three LU distance runners placed inside the top six in the 1,500 meter run, led by Michael Kershaw second-place time of 3:59.25. Aaron Bennett was third at 3:59.68, and Sean Chalmers ended sixth at 4:00.95.
TaMar Hicks ran seventh in the 800, finishing in 1:55.61, and Dominique Taylor was eighth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.73 seconds.
