HAMMOND, La. - Sydney Wandix put up personal-best times in two events and the women's 4x400 meter relay team took home a title on Friday as the Lamar track program wrapped up competition at the SLU Invitational at Southeastern Track and Field Complex.
Nia Davis, Saschelle Slaughter, Elzbieta Gawron and Sarah Shim made up the winning relay squad as the quartet finished with a time of 3:51.11. Both Davis and Gawron would also compete in the 400 meter dash, with Davis leading the way and clocking in at 57.82 seconds to place sixth. Gawron crossed the line just .02 seconds later to end seventh.
Wandix, a sophomore out of Houston, finished eighth in the 100 meter dash and sixth in the 200 with times of 12.23 and 25.08 seconds, respectively. Both represent season-best times for the LU women.
Kaitlynn Warren was another top track performer for the women, placing second in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 10:56.06, and Dominique Taylor set a new personal best in the 100 meter hurdles, ending eighth at 14.42 seconds.
Both Beatrice Douglas and Erin Brown starred in the long jump, placing fourth and fifth, respectively, with distances of 18 feet, 10.5 inches, and 18 feet, 10 inches. Slaughter was sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 36 feet, 1.5 inches, and Emma Lowry rounded out the jumps group by clearing five feet, three inches, to come in seventh.
For the men, Le'Trey Burton set a new personal best in the 110 meter hurdles with a fourth-place time of 14.83 seconds, and Michael Lester was the only other Card with a top-eight showing, posting a leap of 22 feet, 4.5 inches, to finish sixth in the long jump.
Lamar will return to action next weekend with the J. Fred Duckett Rice Twilight Meet, the final event before next month's Southland Conference Championships.
