ATLANTA - Aaron Bennett broke the 1:50 mark in the 800 meter run for the second time this season on Saturday as he headlined a trio of Lamar track and field athletes participating at the Georgia Tech Invitational at George C. Griffin Track.
Bennett, a graduate student out of Southampton, England, finished ninth in the event with a time of 1:49.97. Earlier this season, Bennett set a lifetime-best in the race, breaking 1:50 for the first time with a mark of 1:49.21. He was the runner-up finisher at last week's Southland Championships.
On Friday, both Erin Brown and Beatrice Douglas competed in the long jump, with Brown finishing 20th with a mark of 18 feet, 1.5 inches. Brown returned to the jump pits on Saturday, ending 22nd in the triple with a distance of 37 feet, 5.25 inches.
The Cards will return to action in two weeks as a select number of athletes will compete at the NCAA West Preliminaries on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
