BEAUMONT, Texas -
The Lamar University men's and women's indoor track teams open the 2011 season by competing at the Leonard Hilton Memorial at the University of Houston on Friday.
The field events get under way at 11 a.m., with the track events slated to start at 1 p.m.
"It's good to get back in action," Lamar coach Trey Clark said. "We're excited about starting the season."
Clark said the Lamar squads view Friday's meet as a training session.
"We're trying to be cautious," Clark said. "This is the first meet for us, and we want to keep people healthy."
Among the competitors for Lamar will be Taylor Cloy, who placed third in the Southland Conference women's cross country meet in the fall. Cloy will run in the 5,000 meters. On the men's side, Bob Ahimbisibwe, who was second at the SLC cross country meet, will compete in the mile run.
Following Friday's meet, the Lamar squads will be idle until the Houston Indoor Invitational on Jan. 29.
