BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar University men's and women's indoor track teams will compete Friday at the Leonard Hilton Memorial hosted by the University of Houston.
The 14-team meet will get under way at 11 a.m. at the University of Houston's Alumni/Athletics Center.
Last season, the Cardinals had several strong performances turned in as they took the oval for the first time, led by the second place finish by HIllary Samoei in the men's 800 meter run. The junior turned in a 1:54.14 performance in the 800, scoring 10 points in the standings.
Frank Bwambale also had a strong performance, placing fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a 15:37.96 performance.
On the women's side Sandy Castro had the highest finish for Lamar by matching Bwambale's fourth place finish in the 5,000. The freshman posted a 17:56.61 performance, while fellow freshman Taylor Cloy came in 10th place in a time of 18:33.69.
In the 4x400 meter relay the LU men turned in a seventh place finish with a 3:23.14 performance. The women's 4x400 squad turned in a 12th place finish, running a time of 4:08.34.
