FRISCO – Sam Stabler, winner of the 2014 Southland Indoor Athlete of the Year, picked right back up where he left off this past weekend and earned Southland Athlete of the Week in the process.
Stabler, a native of Queniborough, England, took home the 1,500 meter title at the 32nd annual Victor Lopez Classic, finishing the race with a conference-best time of 3:43.44. The time ranks second nationally and it marks the third time this semester that Stabler has ranked inside the top five in the national rankings. The performance moved him up to second on LU’s all-time performance list, trailing only Francis Kasagule’s time of 3:40.89.
It’s the third weekly honor this year for Stabler, who is also a member of LU’s Southland champion cross country team.
