FRISCO – Louise Webb ran the second-fastest 3,000 meter steeplechase in conference history this past weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays, and she was honored for it on Wednesday as she was named the Southland Track Athlete of the Week.
Webb, a graduate student out of Southampton, ran in the Elite open race of the prestigious event, finishing fifth with a time of 10:19.83. It was less than three seconds shy of the school and conference record, which was set in 2007 by former Lady Cardinal Amanda King.
The reigning Southland Indoor Athlete of the Year, Webb has now earned two weekly honors from the conference this semester. She was also a member of LU’s Southland-winning cross country team and an all-region honoree at the South Central Regional.
The LU track and field teams will close out its regular season this weekend at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight meet on the campus of Rice this weekend.
