FRISCO – For the fourth time this semester, Lamar distance runner Sam Stabler has been named Southland Track Athlete of the Week.

Stabler, a junior out of Queniborough, England, had a day to remember this past weekend at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight Meet, finishing the 1,500 run in 3:42.18, which ranks as the second-best time in both school and Southland Conference history. Stabler, who already holds a conference-best time in the 5,000 meter run, currently ranks eighth nationally in the 1,500, which marks the fourth time this semester that he has claimed a spot inside the top 10 in a given event.

Stabler, who was competing in his final meet before next week’s Southland Championships, is the reigning Southland Indoor Athlete of the Year and Student-Athlete of the Year. He was also an all-conference honoree on the Cardinals’ Southland-winning cross country team.
