ARLINGTON, Texas - Lamar University's Francis Kasagule and Samuel Kosgei each won an individual event as the Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships came to a close late Sunday night.
Kasagule won the men's 1,500 meters in a time of 3 minutes, 54.29 seconds, while Kosgei won the men's 5,000 meters in 14:23.85. It was the second consecutive 5,000-meter title for Kosgei.
Lamar's Joonas Harjamaki won the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase crown Saturday night.
As a team, Lamar finished seventh with 66 points. UTSA won the team championship with 148 points. The Lamar women had seven points to finish 11th. Stephen F. Austin won the women's crown with 201.5 points.
The Cardinals went 1-2-3 in the men's 5,000 as Kosgei was followed by teammates Kasagule (14:42.27) and Matt Johnsen (14:48.44). Lamar's Alex De La Garza was eighth in 15:11.97.
Lamar's Bob Ahimbisibwe was sixth in the men's 1,500 in 3:57.59.
