Kosgei finishes 11th at NCAA Track and Field Championships

EUGENE, Ore. - Lamar University's Samuel Kosgei just missed out on All-American status, finishing 11th in the men's 10,000 meters at the NCAA Track and Field Championships on Thursday night.

Kosgei finished in a time of 29 minutes, 19.90 seconds, missing out on All-American status by a little more thjan 10 seconds. The top eight finishers were named All-American. Alfred Kipchumba of Portland finished eighth in 29:09.63. Sam Chelanga of Liberty won the race in 28:37.40.

Lamar's Francis Kasagule failed to advance to the finals of the men's 1,500 meters after finishing ninth in his semifinal heat. Kasagule's time of 3:45.23 would have been good for third place in the other semifinal heat. The top five finishers in each heat and the next two fastest times qualified for Saturday's final.

Lamar's Joonas Harjamaki will compete in the finals of the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase at 8 p.m. (Central) Friday.
