EUGENE, Ore. - Joonas Harjamaki became Lamar University's first outdoor track and field All-American in 21 years with a seventh-place finish in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase Friday night.

Harjamaki was clocked in 8 minutes, 44.58 seconds. The top eight finishers earned All-American accolades. Matt Hughes of Louisville won the race in 8:34.18.

Lamar's last outdoor track and field All-American was Jonas Lundstrom in 1989, also in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

"This was a great way to end the season," Lamar coach Trey Clark said. "It's a great day for Joonas and a great day for Lamar."
