BEAUMONT, Texas - Area runners are invited to join the Lamar University men's and women's cross country teams at the Sea Rim Striders Opener at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Cris Quinn Soccer Complex on Dishman Road.

"It's an event to thank the Sea Rim Striders for their support," Lamar assistant cross country and track coach Jake Stewart said. "The area running community has done a lot for us."

The non-competitive run will be 3.5 miles in length as the LU squads get set for their season-opening competition at the Johnny Morriss Invitational in Houston on Friday. The Lamar men's team has won four consecutive Southland Conference championships.

"There is no charge and no pre-registration," Stewart said. "Just show up on Wednesday."
