Lamar University sports fans will have a full menu to choose from this weekend.
The action gets under way Thursday when Lamar plays host to the Southland Conference Cross Country Championships at the Bayou Din Golf Club in Beaumont. The women's race starts at 9 a.m., with the men's race slated for a 9:45 a.m. start. Admission to the championships is free.
The Lamar women's volleyball team has two Southland Conference home games this weekend. Lamar will host Nicholls at 7 p.m. Thursday in McDonald Gym in a battle for second place in the conference's East Division. The Lady Cardinals will take Friday off before welcoming Southeastern Louisiana at 1 p.m. Saturday in the final home match of the season.
The women's soccer team wraps up the regular season when it hosts McNeese State at 7 p.m. Friday at the Lamar Soccer Complex on Senior Night. The Lady Cardinals are still in contention for their first-ever Southland Conference Tournament bid and need a victory to set a single-season school record for wins.
The women's basketball team will have a full day Thursday. The Lady Cardinals will conduct their annual media day at 2 p.m. at the Montagne Center, and then return to the court at 7 p.m. for an intrasquad scrimmage. During the scrimmage, Lamar women's basketball coach Larry Tidwell will be conducting his weekly call-in radio show on KLVI (560 AM). Admission to the scrimmage is free.
The Lamar baseball team will host Houston-Victoria in a scrimmage at noon Saturday at Vincent-Beck Stadium. Houston-Victoria is coached by former Houston Astros outfielder Terry Puhl. Fans will be admitted for free.
Meanwhile, the Lamar football team will be at North Dakota for a contest at noon Saturday. The game will be aired live on KLVI (560AM) and on LamarCardinals.com.
