Andy Powers is in his second season with the Lamar baseball program, joining the staff in August of 2007 as a volunteer assistant. He works with the pitchers and assists the other coaches with field maintenance and the day-to-day operations of the program. Powers came to Lamar after a year at Paris Junior College in Paris, Texas, where he also worked with the pitchers. While at Paris, Powers helped mold the Dragons into one of the top pitching staffs in Region XIV. Before his time at Paris, Powers was the Director of Development for the Kansas City Sluggers from 2004-2007, one of the premier amateur organizations in the Midwest. Powers started his collegiate career at the University of Missouri before transferring to the University of New Mexico after two years, where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Communications. He then began his coaching career as a student assistant with the Lobos. Powers grew up in Houston before moving to Missouri where he graduated from Central High School in St. Joseph, Mo. He became the first baseball player inducted into the CHS Hall of Fame after earning All-State honors in his junior and senior years. Powers is married to the former Sarah Evans, also of St. Joseph, Mo. He is currently working on his Master's Degree in Sports Science of Coaching. |
