EDINBURG - Colt Crawford went 3-for-4 with a run batted in to lead Lamar University to a 4-2 come-from-behind win at Texas-Pan American in non-conference baseball action Friday night at Edinburg Stadium.

Lamar improved to 4-0 on the season and UPTA dropped to 2-3. The three-game series continues today at 4 p.m. The Cardinals will send Scott Vander Weg, who is 0-0 with a 0.00 earned run average, to the mound. Bobby Gomez (0-0, 4.50 ERA) is expected to start for the Broncs.

UTPA got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first inning off Lamar starter Derrick Gordon. Jacob Jones walked and scored on J.R. Saenz' double to left field to give the Broncs an early 1-0 lead.

Lamar tied the game with a run in the third inning. Jo Jo Haney led off the inning with a double to right field and scored on Crawford's single to right.

The Broncs regained the lead with a run in the fifth inning. Alfred Padron walked and advanced to second on Louie Alamia's sacrifice bunt. Padron scored on a RBI single by Jones to put UTPA up 2-1.

The Cardinals plated three runs in the seventh inning to take a 4-2 lead. Will Henderson and Andrew Leal both singled to lead-off the inning, and both runners advanced a base on an error by the left fielder on Leal's single. Matt Lambeth drove in Henderson with a ground out.

Chase Richards delivered a pinch-hit, RBI single to drive in Leal. Adrian Cantu, who was 2-for-4, closed out the scoring with a single to drive in Richards.



Gordon pitched the first five innings, allowing two runs on three hits with four walks and six strikeouts. Freshman Allen Harrington (2-0), who prepped at Port Neches-Groves HS, relieved Gordon and pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing no runs on three hits with one walk and four strikeouts to pick up his second win of the season.

The Broncs had two runners on with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Lamar brought in closer Steve MacFarland, who struck out Jones to end the game to pick up his second save of the season.

Henderson went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Haney and Richards each went 1-for-2.

Ryne Foster (0-1) got the start and took the loss for UTPA, allowing three runs on eight hits in six innings pitched with one walk and four strikeouts. Aaron Guerra pitched the final three innings, allowing one run on three hits with no walks and four strikeouts.
