BEAUMONT - Senior William Delage tossed a complete-game, two-hit shutout as Lamar University blanked the University of Connecticut 4-0 Saturday afternoon in game four of the Lamar Classic at Vincent-Beck Stadium.

Lamar improved to 9-6 on the season and extended its winning streak to four games. UConn dropped to 3-2 on the season. New Orleans shut out Iona College 10-0 in Saturday's early game.

The Lamar Classic concludes Sunday with Iona playing UConn at 11 a.m. and Lamar playing New Orleans at 3 p.m. Both UConn and UNO are 1-1 in the classic, while the Gaels are 0-2.

Delage (3-1) struck out six and walked two in nine innings of work. He retired the side in order three times and Bryan Maler's two-out double down the right field line in the top of the sixth inning broke up the no-hitter. It was his second complete-game shutout of the season.

Lamar scored its first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning. Erik Kanaby walked, took second on a balk by UConn starter Rich Sirois, and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Matt Lambeth. He scored on Sirois' second balk of the inning.

Will Henderson led off the home half of the second inning with a walk and Dan Hernandez followed with a single through the right side of the infield. Sirois' third balk of the game moved both runners into scoring position.

Colt Crawford reached on an infield single deep in the hole at shortstop, driving in Henderson from third base. Kanaby, who was 2-for-3, followed with an RBI groundout to put Lamar up 3-0.

The score remained unchanged until C.J. Ebarb hit a solo home run to right field on the bottom of the eighth inning off reliever Erik Turgeon to make the score 4-0.

Sirois (1-1) took the loss for UConn, allowing three runs on five hits with one strikeout and three walks in five innings pitched.

Junior Derrick Gordon, who is 1-2 with a 6.46 ERA, is expected to start on the mound for Lamar in today's game with New Orleans. Bryan Cryer (2-0, 3.92 ERA) is the Privateers probable starter.
