Lamar Falls To Southeastern Louisiana; Forces Extra Game On Saturday
May 23, 2008
HUNTSVILLE, Texas - Southeastern Louisiana used an 11-run fourth to defeat Lamar 17-1 and force a second title game in bracket one of the 2008 Southland Conference Tournament at Don Sanders Stadium Friday. The two teams will meet for the third time this week on Saturday at Noon. The LU-SLU winner will face Sam Houston State in the championship game later on Saturday. Things started well for Lamar (34-22) when Steven Tucker hit his Sixth home run of the season in the first to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. In the second, Southeastern (32-28) got a 2-run homer from Casey Summerlin and an unearned run to take a 3-1 advantage. After a perfect third inning, the Lions sent 15 men to plate and scored 11 runs on seven hits but were also given the benefit of four free passes and a hit batter. The Lions added another run in the fifth and two unearned scores in the sixth for the final score. Both starters received the decisions, with LU's Jordan Thibodeaux (0-2) allowing three runs in 1.2 innings and Rene' LeBlanc (3-5) throwing a seven-inning complete game with three strikeouts and five hits. David Moore extended his hitting streak to 11 games - the second-longest by a Cardinal this season.
