Cards host UT Arlington in three-game series
March 15, 2012
BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar University baseball team looks to pick up its first Southland Conference victory of the season Friday when it opens up a three-game series against UT Arlington at Vincent-Beck Stadium. Game times are 6:30 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
Lamar (6-10 overall, 0-3 Southland) was swept in last weekend's conference-opening series at Central Arkansas. Since then, Lamar posted non-conference wins over Houston Baptist and Texas Southern.
"We're starting to swing the bats well," Lamar assistant coach Scott Hatten said after Wednesday's 4-1 win over Texas Southern. "The guys are getting quality at-bats. We've also received good pitching and solid defense. When that happens, you're going to win games."
Left-hander Jonathan Dziedzic (2-1, 0.33) is scheduled to start for Lamar on Friday. Dziedzic leads the conference in ERA. UT Arlington is scheduled to counter with right-hander Collin Reynolds (2-0, 2.77). Saturday's game will see a pair of right-handers take the mound, as Lamar's Eric Harrington (0-2, 4.28) faces Lance Day (5-0, 3.03). Both teams are undecided as to Sunday's starters.
Lamar leads the overall series 71-39. The Cardinals swept the Mavericks in a three-game series at Vincent-Beck Stadium last season.
The Friday and Sunday games will be aired live on KLVI (AM 560). All three games can also be heard on LamarCardinals.com. For ticket information, call (409) 880-1715, or visit LamarCardinals.com.
Following the weekend series, Lamar wraps up its six-game homestand by hosting Washington at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
