BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar University baseball team will look to move up in the Southland Conference standings when it hosts UTSA in a three-game series starting at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Vincent-Beck Stadium.

The series continues at 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.

Lamar (24-15 overall, 9-9 conference) enters the weekend tied for seventh place in the SLC, but just one game behind McNeese State and UT Arlington, who are tied for fifth with 10-8 conference marks. Lamar rides a five-game winning streak into the series.

Lamar is coming off a 7-6 non-conference win over Houston on Wednesday, a game highlighted by Kevin Roebuck's two-run homer to left field in the bottom of the ninth. In its last SLC series, Lamar swept Sam Houston State at Vincent-Beck last weekend.

Right-hander Matison Smith (6-1, 3.43) is expected to start for Lamar on Friday against UTSA southpaw Casey Selsor (4-4, 4.34).

UTSA (13-21, 4-13) was swept at Northwestern State last weekend. The Roadrunners, who have lost four in a row, were outhit 49-17 and outscored 28-7 in the three losses.

Lamar leads the overall series with UTSA 22-21.

Sunday's game has been designated as Youth Public Safety Day. Representatives from the Lamar University Police Department, Beaumont Emergency Medical Services, Beaumont Fire Department and Beaumont Police Department will be on hand for various demonstrations starting at noon. All public safety officers will be admitted for free simply by showing their ID at the stadium ticket windows.
