BEAUMONT -- Junior second baseman Any Mena was named third-team All-Southland Conference Monday in voting by the league's coaches and sports information directors after pacing the Lamar University baseball team with a .350 batting average.

Lamar outfielder Quentin Luequette and pitchers Mattison Smith and Eric Harrington were named honorable mention all-SLC, as well. The Cardinals will be back in action Wednesday at noon in the opening round of the SLC Tournament from Corpus Christi.

Mena, who played at nearby Hargrave HS in Huffman, started 35 games for the Cardinals. He was fourth on the team with 34 runs batted in, while adding two home runs, five stolen bases and a .469 slugging percentage.

Michael Choice of UT Arlington was named the SLC Player of the Year, while Texas State's Carson Smith earned Pitcher of the Year accolades. Johnny Cardenas, who has helped turn the program around at Stephen F. Austin, was named Coach of the Year.

Luequette, a senior from Houston, led the Cardinals with 48 RBI and 16 stolen bases while adding five home runs and 16 doubles.

Smith led LU with a 9-3 record on the mound and finished the regular season with a 4.42 earned run average. The Nederland product threw four complete games, including one shutout. Harrington finished his sophomore campaign with a solid 7-3 record and 4.94 ERA. A former standout at Port Neches-Groves HS, Harrington now has 15 career wins in two seasons.
