AUSTIN, Texas -
Lamar utilized a seven-run eighth inning to defeat the Texas Longhorns, 10-8, Saturday afternoon in a weather-shortened fall baseball game. The Cardinals (1-0) used 10 pitchers in the outing with Will Hibbs picking up the victory.
Lamar took an early lead scoring two runs in the first inning, and tacked on another in the top half of the second. The Cardinals trailed 5-3 before exploding for seven runs in the eighth inning. Lamar's eighth-inning onslaught would prove to be the deciding factor as it would hold on for the two-run decision.
Ten different Cardinals recorded a hit in the victory, including four players who had multiple-hit outings. Shortstop Sam Bumpers and first baseman Tyler Sullivan finished the day with three hits. Bumpers went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a couple of runs scored, while Sullivan went 3-for-6 with three RBIs.
