BEAUMONT – The Lamar baseball team will return to competitive action after a long summer on Saturday as the hit the road to play perennial powerhouse Rice at Reckling Park.
The game serves as the beginning of the end for the fall practice season for the Cardinals, who will then play in the annual Red and White World Series over the next week.
Eric Harrington is slated to make the start for LU. The Groves native is in his fifth season on campus, but he won’t be the only pitcher seeing significant playing time as the two teams are scheduled to play 14 innings.
The length of the game will offer head coach Jim Gilligan and his staff enough time to see a number of players perform both in the field and on the mound.
First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
