David McDonald begins his third year at Lamar as an assistant athletic trainer, working primarily with the men's basketball program.
McDonald is a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) and Licensed Athletic Trainer (LAT) in the state of Texas. He holds additional Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) and Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) advanced specializations, the preferred training credentials of athletic trainers and strength and conditioning coaches of professional and collegiate teams. In fact, approximately 93 percent of athletic trainers in the National Basketball Association (NBA) hold the PES and CES credentials.
Prior to joining Lamar, McDonald completed a two-year stint as a graduate assistant at Texas Christian University where he worked with the Horned Frogs' nationally-ranked football and track & field programs. He earned a master's degree in Educational Administration in May of 2009.
Prior to his time at TCU, McDonald worked at Oklahoma State as a student athletic trainer. In Stillwater, he worked with the Cowboy basketball and football squads. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from OSU in May of 2007.
McDonald also served an athletic training intership with the Arizona Cardinals Football Club during the 2006 preseason and received the PFATS/NFL ethnic minority scholarship.
McDonald is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association, Southwest Athletic Trainers' Association, College and University Athletic Trainer's Committee(CUTAC) and the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
The Paris, Texas, native enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, soccer and hanging out with friends. He resides in Beaumont with his wife Gabby. Email David McDonald
