Lamar Drops Second Game in Tulsa, 88-63 at Oral Roberts

TULSA, Okla. - Junior Currye Todd came off the bench to lead three Cardinals in double-figures with 18 points, but Lamar University couldn't overcome Oral Roberts' 54.4 percent shooting from the field as the Golden Eagles pulled out an 88-63 win Monday night at Mabee Center.

Lamar dropped to 3-5 overall and ORU improved to 4-3 on the season. The Cardinals will be looking to snap their two-game losing streak when they close out their three-game road trip Wednesday at Rice. Tip-off is set for 7:05 p.m. at Autry Court.

A Matthew Barrow three-pointer and a Lamar Sanders layup at 17:25 game Lamar a brief 7-6 lead in the first half. ORU's Caleb Green answered with a three point play, followed by a Shawn King dunk and a Ken Tutt layup that put the Golden Eagles up for good at 13-7 with 15:51 remaining in the opening stanza.

After a Darren Hopkins jumper at 15:34 cut ORU's lead to 13-9, the Golden Eagles went on a 14-2 run to push their lead to 16 points, 27-11, capped by a Yemi Ogunoye three-pointer at 8:28.

A pair of free throws and a layup by Sanders brought Lamar to within 14, 38-24, with 1:39 left before halftime. ORU closed the half with an 8-0 run to take a 46-24 lead into the locker room.

Todd was 6 of 11 from the field, including 2 of 5 from three-point range, and 4 of 5 from the free throw line in scoring his season-high 18 points. Hopkins scored 17 points on 8 of 16 shooting from the field, and dished out three assists and had two steals. Sanders added 15 points on 6 of 11 shooting and grabbed five rebounds. Barrow handed out a team-high five assists.
 

 

Lamar shot 47.3 percent (26 of 55) from the field, 30.8 percent (4 of 13) from 3-point range and 70 percent (7 of 10) from the free throw line. The Cardinals committed 23 turnovers, which led to a 30 to 17 advantage in points off turnovers for the Golden Eagles.

Green led ORU with 26 points on 8 of 13 shooting from the field and a perfect 10 of 10 from the free throw line. He also grabbed eight rebounds, dished out three assists and had three steals. Moses Ehambe added 13 points off the bench on 4 of 6 shooting from 3-point range. Tutt added 11 points and five assists.

ORU shot 54.4 percent (31 of 57) from the field, 53.3 percent (8 of 15) from 3-point range and 72 percent (18 of 25) from the free throw line. The Golden Eagles outrebounded Lamar 34 to 25, including grabbing 13 on the offensive glass which led to a 15-9 advantage in second chance points.
