BEAUMONT - After helping Lamar post a 3-0 record during the holiday break, junior Alan Daniels has been voted Southland Conference men's basketball player of the week for a second time this season on Monday.

Daniels, who became the league's first repeat winner this season, has been instrumental in Lamar posting an 8-3 non-conference record to start the season. The Cardinals are set to open SLC play Wednesday when they travel to defending tri-champion Southeastern Louisiana for a 7 p.m. tip at the University Center.

A 6-6 forward from Tulsa, Okla. (Arkansas-Fort Smith), Daniels averaged 22.3 points and 4.0 rebounds per game, shot 61.0 percent from the field and 47.1 percent from 3-point range. He had an impressive return to his hometown, scoring a game-high 24 points in Lamar's win at Tulsa. He scored 21 points vs. Arkansas State and 22 points vs. Central Oklahoma on 8-of-12 shooting from the field.

Daniels scored over 20 points in all three games and has eclipsed the 20-point barrier in seven of 11 games this season. He has overtaken the SLC scoring lead at 19.5 ppg. He also ranks fourth in three-pointers made per game (2.91), 10th in 3-point percentage (.438), 12th in assists per game (3.09) and 15th in field goal percentage (.516).
