Texas-Arlington at Lamar Game Notes

BEAUMONT - Following two straight road wins, Lamar returns home to the friendly confines of the Montagne Center Saturday to host Texas-Arlington at 7 p.m. in Southland Conference men's basketball action.
Lamar, who is 9-7 overall and 2-1 in SLC play, is coming off a 70-65 win at Stephen F. Austin on Thursday. The Cardinals also posted an 83-58 win at Texas State last Saturday. Lamar has won eight of its last 11 games.
Saturday is Little Dribblers night at the Montagne Center. All area Little Dribblers in uniform will gain free admission to the game. Also, the first 500 fans through the turnstiles will receive a free T-shirt compliments of game sponsor Academy Sports and Outdoors.
UTA is 8-7 overall and 1-1 in SLC play. The Mavericks are coming off an 83-64 home win over Texas State on Thursday. UTA opened SLC play with a home 79-67 loss to Northwestern State. The Mavs have won four of their last six games.
This will be the 65th meeting between Lamar and UTA with the Cardinals holding a commanding 48-16 all-time series advantage. Lamar is 26-5 in games played in Beaumont, 21-10 in Arlington and 1-1 on a neutral court. The Cardinals won the only meeting between the two schools last season, 85-66, on Feb. 12, 2005 in Arlington. Lamar has won five straight in the series and is 7-5 against UTA since returning to the SLC.
Senior Alan Daniels scored a game-high 24 points in Lamar's win at SFA on Thursday. It was the 12th time in 16 games he has scored 20 or more points in a game this season. He leads the team and the SLC in scoring at 22.8 ppg, which ranks 10th in the NCAA.
A native of Tulsa, Okla., Daniels is second on the team in rebounding at 6.4 rpg, leads the team in steals (40) and third in assists (50). He is shooting 44.4 percent from the field, 26 percent from 3-point range and 70.6 percent from the free throw line.
Sophomore Matthew Barrow is second on the team in scoring at 11.3 ppg and leads the team in assists with 66, which ranks fifth in the SLC (4.13). Senior Thomas Fairley is averaging 10.3 ppg and leads the team in rebounding at 6.9 rpg, which ranks fifth in the SLC. He is shooting 54.8 percent from the field (4th in SLC).
Lamar leads the SLC and ranks ninth in the NCAA in scoring at 82.1 ppg. The Cardinals are shooting 46.8 percent from the field (3rd in SLC), 32.9 percent from 3-point range (10th in SLC) and 62.7 percent from the free throw line (10th in SLC).
Jarrett Howell leads UTA in scoring at 15.0 ppg and in steals with 30, which ranks seventh in the SLC (2.00). He is shooting 46.7 percent from the field, 41 percent from 3-point range and 85.7 percent from the free throw line (2nd in SLC).
Steven Thomas, a preseason first-team all-SLC selection, is the only other Maverick averaging double-figures at 11.6 ppg. He leads the team in rebounding at 6.9 rpg (4th in SLC) and is shooting 51.3 percent from the field (8th in SLC).
UTA is averaging 71.4 ppg (7th in SLC) and is shooting 45.1 percent from the field (7th in SLC), 33.2.1 percent from 3-point range (9th in SLC) and 69.1 percent from the free throw line (2nd in SLC).
