FRISCO, Texas - After helping Lamar to a 2-0 week, including a 81-56 SLC opening victory over UTSA on Saturday, Lamar Sanders has been named this week's Southland Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week. It is the second career honor for Sanders, who first won the honor on March 5, 2007.
Sanders averaged 16.5 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting a solid .789 (15-of-19) from the floor as Lamar won both of its games and improved to 7-2 at home. He posted a season-high 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting to go along with five rebounds, four assists and four steals in the Cardinals come-from-behind win over Utah Valley State, as the Cardinals rallied from 14 down with 12 minutes to play. Sanders was a perfect 7-of-7 from the floor against UTSA in the conference-opener and finished with 15 points, a team-high eight rebounds and a pair of steals.
Currently, the Hickory, Miss., native is second in the SLC in FG pct (.647) and seventh in rebounds (7.4). He is also No. 22 in the SLC in scoring at 11.3 per game.
