BEAUMONT - Lamar men's basketball player Jason Grant was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VI University Division first team on Thursday.
Grant, a kinesiology major, has played in all 23 games this season and started 16. He is averaging 5.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. He leads the team and ranks fourth in the Southland Conference with 35 blocked shots (1.52 pg).
A native of Toronto, Grant has season highs of 16 points against Nicholls State, 13 rebounds at Rice and four blocked shots at Texas-Arlington. He currently ranks second on the school's all-time blocked shots list and is on pace to surpass B.B. Davis for most blocked shots in a career.
District VI is comprised of university's from Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. The sports information directors from each university vote on the team.
Joining on the Academic All-District VI is Brandon Bass of LSU, Eric Castro of SMU, Troy DeVries of New Mexico and Shane Power of Mississippi State.
All the first team selections from District VI, along with the first teams from the other seven districts, will comprise the national ballot. The CoSIDA Academic All-America team will be announced on March 2.
