PLANO - For the second straight year, Lamar University's Jason Grant was named to the Southland Conference Men's Basketball All-Academic Team, announced the league office on Tuesday.

Grant, who was tabbed the SLC men's basketball student-athlete of the year in 2004, led the team and ranked fourth in the SLC in blocked shots this season with 42. A 6-10 center, Grant averaged 4.8 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. He scored a season-high 16 points against Nicholls State and grabbed a season-best 13 rebounds against Rice.

A kinesiology major from Toronto, Canada, Grant was named to the 2005 CoSIDA Academic All-District VI team. He ranks second on Lamar's all-time blocked shots list with 165, five behind all-time leader B.B. Davis' 170.

Joining Grant on the SLC all-academic team was Zach Allison of Texas State, Kurt Attaway of Texas-San Antonio, Brady Dawkins of Texas-Arlington and Jason Wilkins of Nicholls State. Attaway was named men's basketball student-athlete of the year.
