BEAUMONT - As the Lamar Cardinals wind down another exciting athletic year, the Cardinal Club begins its annual membership drive to raise $150,000 for student-athlete scholarships for the 2005-06 season.
To reach the goal, the Cardinal Club is counting on not only 100 percent renewal rate from the 2004-05 members, but also a 25 percent growth through new memberships and increased giving amounts from existing members.
"The financial support of the Cardinal Club is vital to the success of our student-athletes and coaches," said Cardinal Club Executive Director Brad McGowan. "Our long-term goal is to help fully fund the maximum number of NCAA allowable athletic scholarships in every Lamar sport. Reaching this year's goal of $150,000 for the Cardinal Club will put us on the right track."
At the heart of its membership drive in the effort put forth by the Cardinal Club Board of Directors. Every year, the directors volunteer hundreds of hours to collecting new and renewal pledges. They are an invaluable resource and the main reason Lamar athletics can aim for such lofty goals.
"The Board of Directors is extremely excited about this year's campaign," said Cardinal Club Board President Buzz Long. "With the addition of some great new benefits and the increasing popularity of Lamar sports, we really believe that the Cardinal Club is going to continue to grow."
One of the most exciting new benefits added this year is the Red Shirt membership. This special membership allows any new members and/or any person under the age of 30 to receive any membership level for half of the cost.
"The Red Shirt membership is our way of reaching out to the community, especially to current students, recent graduates and young families," McGowan said.
