Senior forward Amos Wilson has been named to the 2013 College Sports Madness Preseason All-Southland Conference third team announced CSM's director of business operations, Fred Wesler, Thursday morning.
"Last year didn't go as planned, for anyone, but that is the reason I recruited Amos because I felt like he would be an all-conference player," said head coach Pat Knight. "This is a good honor for him to get during the preseason, but now he has to reach that potential and get it done on the court."
A 6-5 forward from Carrollton Newman Smith High School, Wilson transferred to Lamar from Collin County Community College. Wilson had a significant impact during his first season in a Cardinals' uniform. He finished fourth on the team averaging 8.9 points per game and was third on the squad with nearly five rebounds (4.7 rpg) per contest.
Wilson is one of only six returning letterwinners for the Cardinals, and one of three returning starters. He was one of the league's better free-throw shooting big men last season (72 percent), while knocking down better than 40 percent of his shots from the field. Wilson is the team's second-leading returning scorer, rebounder and shot blocker.
He hit double figures 12 times during the 2012-13 season, including two 20-point outings. He posted a career-night against Nicholls State with 23 points, seven rebounds and four assists. The game against the Colonels was one of seven games where Wilson led the team in scoring.
Lamar tips off the 2013-14 season with an exhibition against McMurry Friday, Nov 1. The regular season begins on the road when the Cardinals face Butler in Indianapolis, Ind. Lamar's regular-season home-opener will be Tuesday Nov. 12 against George Mason (7 p.m.).
