FRISCO, Texas - SLC NOW, the streaming video and audio channel of the Southland Conference, will offer live interviews with the league's men's and women's basketball coaches free of charge as part of the annual Southland Conference basketball media day Tuesday, Oct. 21, from the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas.
Interviews on SLC NOW will begin at approximately 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and each basketball coach will sit down and give a preview about their team and answer questions from Dave Knobler, host of "Inside the Southland Conference," the monthly magazine show televised on the Southland Conference Television Network.
Tuesday morning before media day gets underway, the Southland Conference will announce the preseason all-conference teams as well as the predicted order of finish in polls voted on by the league coaches and sports information directors. Those news releases will be posted on www.Southland.org.
Last year, Stephen F. Austin and Lamar shared the men's regular-season championship, while UT Arlington became only the second No. 7 seed to win its first conference tournament title. The Texas State women's team claimed its first regular season championship, while UTSA also won its first conference tournament title.
The 2009 State Farm Southland Conference Basketball Tournament returns to the Merrell Center for the second consecutive season. The tournament will begin with women's quarterfinal action on Wednesday, March 11. Men's quarterfinal play will be contested Thursday, March 12 while the men's and women's semifinals will be played Friday, March 13. The women's championship will be played at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 14 while the men's championship is at noon on Sunday, March 15.
The 5,600-seat Merrell Center is owned and operated by Katy Independent School District and is conveniently located off Interstate 10, near the renowned Katy Mills Mall. In addition to Katy ISD athletic events, the Merrell Center has hosted concerts, commencements, conventions and trade shows and indoor professional football games. The arena features complete chairback seating, two Daktronics video boards, scoreboards and video ribbons, on-site parking for 2,400 vehicles, professional sound and lighting systems, and wireless internet and multimedia capabilities.
