BEAUMONT - Fans were treated to a glimpse of BillyBall last season. After assembling a recruiting class that was ranked in the top five nationally, Lamar coach Billy Tubbs has the Cardinals poised for a run at the Southland Conference championship.
The Lamar athletic department is accepting season ticket orders for the 2004-05 season. The Cardinals ranked 15th in the NCAA in scoring last season and topped the 100-point barrier three times, the most by a Lamar team in over 10 years.
In addition to the nationally-ranked recruiting class, the Cardinals return two of their top three scorers in guards Raymond Anthony and Teddy Davis. Anthony averaged 15.5 points per game and his 94 three-pointers made ranked as the second-best single-season total in school history. Davis averaged 13.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.
Also back for Lamar is junior center Jason Grant and sophomore guard Blake Whittle. Grant averaged 7.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per game last season. His 71 blocked shots ranked 19th in the NCAA and was the second-best single-season total in school history. He already ranks third on the school's all-time list with 123. Whittle averaged 7.4 points and 3.6 rebounds per game as a true freshman last season.
Tubbs reached a career milestone last season, becoming the 28th coach in NCAA Division I history to record 600 career wins in Lamar's 79-67 win over Texas Southern on Dec. 8, 2003. He enters the 2004-05 season as the NCAAs 10th active winningest coach.
Experience BillyBall first-hand with the best seats in the house. There are three types of season ticket packages available at the same price as last year. The packages are side court reserved ($150 per seat), end zone reserved ($105 per seat) and family fun zone ($249), which includes two adults and up to three children.
Season tickets to Lamar basketball are one of the best entertainment values in Southeast Texas. The cost for a family of five to attend a Lamar basketball game in the family fun zone is $13.83 per game. Purchasing a season ticket you would save $120 off the single-game price in the reserved section and $111 off the single-game price in the end zone section.
In addition to the huge savings, a season ticket ensures you the same great seat at every Lamar basketball game.
