BEAUMONT, Texas - Provost Umphrey Stadium, set to make its debut to the public on September 11, 2010, is quickly transforming into its new and improved form.

When completed, the 15,300 seat stadium will be the crown jewel of Lamar Athletics and on-par with the very finest Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) stadiums in the country. Provost Umphrey Stadium will boast new artificial field turf, seven (7) luxury suites, a 25'H x 50'W video board and a 44,000 square feet athletic complex. Should Lamar choose to expand the seating, the stadium has the capability to expand to 28,000.

As can be seen in the drawings provided by Leo A. Daly, the architectural firm commissioned by Lamar University for stadium design, all ticket holders will enjoy great site lines in the cozy confines of Provost Umphrey Stadium. Fans will enter the facility through one of four entrance gates at the Southwest, Northwest, Southeast, and Northeast of the stadium. The Southwest gate bears the mark of "W.S. `Bud' Leonard Field", a former Lamar Football athlete, graduate, and longtime university supporter.

Once inside the stadium, fans can enjoy getting a hot dog or Coca-Cola beverage from one of six (6) concession areas located underneath the East and West stands. There are also twelve (12) restroom facilities, vendor booths, and stadium map kiosks inside the facility.

As ticket holders move to their seats, they will quickly notice every seat in Provost Umphrey Stadium has a great view of the field. The playing surface is Matrix field turf and supplied by Hellas Construction, based in Austin, Texas. The field turf is identical to that recently installed in the new Cowboy Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. Accessibility will not be an issue for interested fans, as Provost Umphrey Stadium will have ADA compliant seating available in both the East and West stadium stands, as well as behind the South end zone.

When ticket holders decide to get the latest game information or review an instant replay, their eyes will turn towards the Education First Federal Credit Union Scoreboard, a state-of-the-art, video-integrated scoreboard. The video scoreboard will run both live and replay video, as well as keep track of game stats and provide avenues for promoting corporate sponsors of Lamar Athletics.

As the eyes of fans turn toward Lamar touchdowns scored in the North end zone, they will see cheers coming from the seven Morgan Suites, containing all of the amenities desired by companies looking to host employee or client events.

"With the recent announcement of adding suites to the list of conveniences available at Provost Umprey Stadium, I am certain that Lamar Football fans will be proud of the finished product they will see on September 11, 2010.", said Brad McGowan, assistant athletic director for development. "As both an employee and a graduate of Lamar, the moment President Simmons and Athletic Director Billy Tubbs announced the decision to take on this endeavor, I had every confidence the community would be able to take pride in the results."
