BEAUMONT, Texas -
Former Lamar All-American Chris Maikranz has received an invite to Houston Texans minicamp announced Fox Sports1's Senior NFL reporter Alex Marvez. A four-year starter for the Cardinals, Maikranz was a part of the original class to bring football back to Beaumont.
"This is a great opportunity for Chris, and he deserves it," said head coach Ray Woodard. "Chris is the best deep snapper I've coached at the collegiate level. It is a part of the game that gets overlooked quite a bit, until things go wrong, and then you learn to appreciate a guy like Chris. Since we brought back the program, we've never had to worry about our long snapper because we had the best."
A position that gains little recognition, Maikranz served as the Cardinals' deep snapper all four seasons. During his four-year career, Maikranz never recorded a bad snap.
During his senior season, Maikranz began to receive national attention for his efforts on the field. The Sugar Land, Texas native closed out his career by becoming the first Cardinal to receive All-America honors since Lamar resurrected the program. He joined teammate Jesse Dickson on the Sports Network All-America third team, and was also named honorable mention College Sports Journal All-American.
