Countdown to Kickoff
June 25, 2010
Click Here to PURCHASE YOUR TICKETS 71 days until kickoff - Football obviously adds excitement and buzz to any college campus, but its imprint can also be felt throughout the community and by local businesses. With football comes additional enrollment, Lamar's is at an all-time high of 14,054, as well as more visitors into Beaumont and the Golden Triangle area. With visiting teams and their fans coming in to face the Cardinals, hotels and restaurants will most assuredly see an upward trend in revenue. Bill Bianchi, general manager of longtime corporate sponsor MCM Elegante', has enjoyed his hotel's relationship with Lamar University and knows that football will help that affiliation to grow. "We have been fortunate to be associated with Lamar for several years," said Bianchi. "Football brings a new dynamic and I am looking forward to working with both Lamar and the visiting teams to provide first-class accommodations." Bianchi isn't just focusing on the possibilities of added business, however. "I'm definitely a football fan and I'm very much looking forward to going to watch the games." Lamar will play an 11 game schedule this season with six games being played in the newly renovated Provost Umphrey Stadium. The first Cardinal home game will be against Webber International on Sept. 11. The Texas State University System Board of Regents approved an athletic fee to restore the program in February of 2008 and Lamar named former NFL player Ray Woodard its eighth head coach on June 19, 2008. Tickets for this historic season are currently on sale and can be purchased by calling the Lamar Ticket Office at (409) 880-1715 or by visiting the athletics website at www.lamarcardinals.com/tickets/footbl-s-tickets.html.
