CHARLESTSON, S.C. - A week after being named to the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Watch List as a kick returner, senior Kevin Johnson finds himself on another CFPA preseason award list. He has also been named to the 2014 Punt Returner Award Watch list announced CFPA Executive Director Brad Smith Thursday afternoon.

The preseason honor might have been expected considering Johnson was the 2013 CFPA Punt Returner of the Year, following a season that saw Johnson help the Cardinals finish second in the nation's in punt return average. Johnson averaged 18 yards per punt return, including two returns for touchdowns during his junior campaign.

Johnson ability to change the momentum of a game was never more evident than at Grambling State last season. Trailing 16-0 in the second quarter, Johnson fielded a punt on his 48-yard line and returned it the distance. The touchdown switched the momentum of the game in Lamar's favor as the Cardinals rattled off 27 unanswered points for the victory.

The 2012 Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year as a receiver, Johnson has since converted to the defensive side of the ball, and enters his senior campaign as one of the school's all-time best return specialists. Johnson owns the record for kick and punt returns for touchdowns in a season and career.

The Cardinals will open the 2014 regular season Saturday, Aug. 30th, when they host Grambling State. The game against the Tigers is slated to kickoff at 7 p.m. from Provost Umphrey Stadium.
